The Inner Temple has been committed to the progressive development of research, education, training and support, relating to the mental health and wellbeing of the profession. It sits squarely within the Inn's historical purpose and charters. That support started in 2013 with the assistance provided to one of their members (Master Rachel Spearing, the Master of Wellbeing for the Inner Temple) who sought to raise the issue of a rising phenomena of distress within the profession, in many cases leading to critical risk and ethical impact which was not being addressed by leadership.
Members of the Inn can access events on wellbeing topics, including those specifically devised as part of the Qualifying Sessions programme for students and the annual Wellness for Law Conference, as well as support from the Pre-Pupillage Wellbeing Support Programme and the Wellbeing at the Bar initiative and Assistance Programme.
