It is with much regret that we report that Master Leggatt (The Rt Hon Sir Andrew Leggatt), sadly died on Friday, 21 February, aged 89. The Inn’s flag is flying at half-mast today, Tuesday 25 February, in his memory.
Master Leggatt was called to the Bar by The Inner Temple in 1954. He was Head of Chambers at what has since became 3VB and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1972. He was Chairman of the Bar from 1981-82 and a Judge of the High Court of Justice, Queen’s Bench Division from 1982-90. Master Leggatt served as a Lord Justice of Appeal from 1990-97 and as Chief Surveillance Commissioner from 1998-2006.
Master Leggatt was elected a Governing Bencher of the Inn in 1976.
The family have decided that Master Leggatt would not have wanted a memorial service and therefore have decided not to hold one.
