This talk will provide a description of the coronial jurisdiction and its historical development, together with a summary of recent statutory reforms. It will also give an account of the Chief Coroner's role in bringing national consistency to what remains a locally administered form of justice, while defending and preserving its inquisitorial method and ethos. His Honour Thomas Teague KC was Chief Coroner from December 2020 (during the second COVID lockdown) until his retirement in May 2024. Followed by a drinks reception.
